Greyhound Racing Industry Consultation Paper Update

Date: Fri, 13 Jul 2012 04:24:36 PM
Industry: Greyhounds
Type: Industry News

Racing Queensland Limited (RQL) has received and documented considerable correspondence regarding the release of the Greyhound Racing Industry Consultation Paper on Thursday, July 5, 2012.

A seminar on Thursday, July 12 was organised to assemble representatives of the seven Queensland race clubs, the Queensland Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association (QGBOTA), the United Queensland Greyhound Association (UQGA), and leading trainers and breeders from across the state.

RQL chairman Kevin Dixon, director John Falvey and key RQL staff hosted the forum where the industry could address initial perceived issues with the consultation paper and openly discuss options.

Stakeholders, who want their beloved industry to prosper in the future, left the seminar in unanimous agreement regarding the direction of the greyhound racing in Queensland.

Outcomes that resulted from the seminar include:

·         RQL will continue to fund Free For All prizemoney at Thursday night Category A meetings.

·         Standard Thursday night Category A races will maintain prizemoney of $3200 to the winner. Prizemoney for fourth place Thursday night Category A meetings will be reduced to the unplaced equivalent and third place prizemoney will be reduced to $410.

·         Unplaced prizemoney will now be paid to eighth place with the shortfall paid by a reduction to fifth, sixth and seventh placed prizemoney.

·         RQL will continue to consult with Greyhounds Racing NSW regarding the implementation of a new grading model and outsourcing this practice.

RQL applauds greyhound stakeholders for the manner in which they have addressed the proposed changes in the consultation paper. RQL is adamant about building a sustainable and prosperous future for the greyhound industry and is delighted the proposed changes have been met with vastly positive feedback.
